The PACK vs Packing Cubes: How Do They Stack Up?

Posted by Jonathan T on

We may be biased, but the PACK Gear Organizer is a much better solution for keeping your belongings organized. Here’s a side-by-side comparison:

Price:

Here’s a simple question – would you rather pay $45 or $63 for the same volume of packing space? Me, I'd rather pay the $45.

You need six medium cubes or three full sized cubes with one medium cube to match the packing space of the PACK. If you’re using anything larger than a 50L backpack, you may need to use even more than 6 cubes. Packing cubes are less convenience and they're more pricey.

Compactable

The creators at PACK headquarters are avid travelers, and we understand that every inch of space inside your bag matters.  We designed the PACK out of lightweight nylon so that it takes up barely any space. Empty, the PACK's dimensions are .5" x 9" x 7". That's right, the PACK fits inside of a manila folder. Backpacking gear is meant to be small and weightless, like the PACK Gear Organizer.

See a photo of the folded PACK in the gallery.

On the other hand, packing cubes take up 2.5 times more space than the PACK. Why waste all that room in your backpack or luggage?

Convenience:

Let's be honest, no one would prefer to deal with half a dozen packing cubes instead of just one complete organizer. The PACK is simply more convenient. In addition, you can hang you PACK organizer wherever you go (doors, beds, closets, trees, etc...)

You can't do that with packing cubes.

Quality:

It’s hard to say if the PACK organizer is of higher quality than packing cubes - it really depends on which company you're buying from. We can tell you that the PACK is made of rugged 220 Nylon and double stitched for safety. This is the same material that parachutes are made of. Your PACK will be able to keep up with travel adventures.

Bottom Line:

There is finally a better alternative to packing cubes! Check out which organizers we have in stock now!

What's Next For PACK Gear?

Posted by Jonathan T on

There are many ways to make the hostel/couchsurfing experience more pleasant. It’s not just about packing and unpacking. The backpacking experience is unique, and requires different solutions and gear than an outdoors backpacker, camper, or hiker.

Unfortunately, we urban backpackers are an underserved market – until now. The PACK team has begun making a list of ALL the problems urban backpackers face. We’ll continue to collect responses from backpackers around the world for the next couple months, and use it to figure out where to focus our design efforts.

What are your biggest frustrations with packing? What kind of backpacking gear would make your life better? Let us know in the comments below!

Interview With The Founder: Why A Backpack Organizer?

Posted by Jonathan T on

Why is this product special to you?

I’m a very organized person, but I also love backpacking. The two are hard to mesh. A couple friends and I got together to find a solution – and we found it. I loved the creating the PACK because every time we tested it at a hostel, I realized that there are so many people like me. People hate packing and unpacking every time they move. These days, I cannot travel anywhere without the PACK, even if it’s just for a weekend getaway.

Where have you traveled?

I’ve been to Germany, Israel, Spain, The Netherlands, a bunch of Caribbean Islands, Djibouti, Tanzania, and Uganda. I’ve also been to many places with the United States – my favorite being Monterey, California.

What’s next on your list?

I’d really like to visit Croatia. My friends posted some photos of Dubrovnik, and it looks amazing.

Why’s the PACK better than the alternative?

It comes down to three things – price, convenience, and space management.

First is price – you’re saving money with the PACK. You need up to 6 packing cubes to get the same packing area as you do with just 1 PACK. This means you need to spend a LOT of money. And who wants to keep zipping and unzipping six cubes all the time? The PACK was built around the backpacker’s backpack.

Second is convenience. No one wants to deal with 6 packing cubes. Packing cubes meant to be used with luggage, not with backpacks. They’re a second-best solution. They cannot possibly be as convenient at as product designed specifically for backpackers.

Third is space management. The PACK folds down into a flat rate mailing envelope – it weights under 9oz, and is made of rugged but lightweight nylon. The PACK itself takes up almost NO room in your backpack. Packing cubes are rugged and take up a lot of room you could be using to pack your essentials.

Is it true a competitor already offered to buy you?

All I can say is that we’re open to partnerships with retails who have a similar focus to ours. We are focused on urban backpackers and backpacking gear that makes their lives better.

What’s next for you?

We’re going to continue improving the PACK. We have a lot of new products we’re excited to introduce in the next several months. Backpackers from around the world have chimed in – and we’re listening.
